ABOUT ME
Hi!
I’m Brigitte Adela and I’m a theatre director, facilitator and sound artist. My practice is centred around play and collaboration.
As a director I work in New Writing and devising (making new work from an idea or stimulus). My work is character driven, exploring our messy, complex relationships with each other and how the spaces we find ourselves in affect us. I enjoy creating worlds on stage with abstract and/or minimalistic set design and further pushing the limits of a physical space with lighting and sound. I have years of experience working with new and emerging playwrights and understand the care that’s needed when working on new work.
As a facilitator I’m an enabler and nurturer of creativity. I devise and facilitate accessible workshops on various elements of theatre making for children, young people and adults. At the core of my practice is creating inclusive and nourishing spaces for the sharing and exploring of ideas through collaboration, imagination and play. Some of the companies I've facilitated for are National Theatre, Barbican, Almeida and Coney. I run workshops for professionals and non-professionals, students and teachers.
As a Sound Artist I create sound art that explores the relationship between aural space and physical space and the spaces in between; by fusing domestic sounds, sounds of nature, city sounds and poetry. Most of my work is designed to be experienced through headphones.
I’ve previously been; a Creative Associate at Jermyn Street Theatre, part of Tamasha Directors group and a Coney Associate Maker. I have a BA in Modern Drama Studies and MA in Advanced Theatre Practice.
I am a Mentor Director for National Theatre Connections and have been since 2020.
I'm also a trustee at Theatre-Rites who are a fantastic company who make experimental theatre for children.
This website is a collection of some of my work and a scrapbook of my process.
